The revolution of 1956 was not planned, it was more a spontanious revolution, lasting nationwide from 23 October until 10 November 1956. It all began with a student demonstration march through the city of Budapest to the famous Hungairan parliament. Students tried to capture the building of a Radio station (just like 2006 protesters tried to enter into the Hungarian TV building) but the attempt failed. The news of this demonstrations spread fast and soon all over the city and the country demonstrations started. After the revolt spread throughout entire Hungary the government fell. Thousands were fighting against the national police as well as Soviet troups.
The protesters prisoned or executed Pro-Soviets and freed their Hungarian folks in prison and armed them. By the end of October fights had almost stopped and normality returned to the streets of Budapest and Hungay.
On November 4th the Soviets invaded Budapest and Hungary and Hungarians restisted till November 10th. In this time more than 2.500 Hungarian Girls and Boys and 700 Russians died, 200.000 Hungarians fled as refugees. Russians took over Budapest again and installed a new Soviet government.
For over 30 years it was forbidden to lead public discussions about the revolution of 1956.
